Gatland feared fly-half Jones could be a doubt for next month's Six Nations after he damaged a joint in his right shoulder for the Scarlets against Newport Gwent Dragons on New Year's Eve.
But a scan revealed that the British Lions star had suffered a sprain and Jones is expected to be back in time to face London Irish in the Heineken Cup a week on Sunday.
Jones, 32, said: "The physio told me straight away that he was very optimistic, so I was happy about that.
"The injury isn't too bad and I should only be out for a couple of weeks.
"There are no concerns for the Six Nations."
Prolific points-scorer Jones will miss the Scarlets' Magners League trip to Munster on Sunday.
