John Steele, the new chief executive of the Rugby Football Union, said a realistic expectation was for Johnson’s men to beat one of New Zealand, Australia and South
Africa, plus secure a victory against Samoa.
Steele said: ‘Playing the top three teams in the world and Samoa is probably a harder group of games than you’d face in most World Cup runs.
He added: ‘Once we’ve had the internationals we’ll do what all high performing organisations do in sport and analyse what we did, where we can improve and what it
means for the next milestone, which is the Six Nations.’
The Sale prop has not represented England since the end of last year’s Six Nations because of a shoulder injury, but is desperate to win his place back.
Brewer said: ‘If he gets a full week in this week, then if he comes back to us and we start him against London Irish, that’ll get him in half-decent shape for New Zealand. ‘If he can last for 40 to 50 minutes against the All Blacks, I’m sure the England manager will be happy.’
Moody had hoped to return tomorrow at his old club, Leicester, but that has been ruled out and he is in line to play next week at Harlequins.
